Juladi Biography

Elke Radtke has been active in the video art scene since 2005. She has performed at multiple Video Art and Music Festivals around the world, as well as lectured on video art in Mexico City at the Arts University San Carlos. She won the Mapping Festival VJ Competition 2013 in Geneva, Swiss and was the 2nd runner up at VJ Torna at the Live Performers Meeting in Cape Town, South Africa and 2012 the1st runner up in Rome, Italy (Championship Category) and 2011 (Battle Category).

As VJ Juladi she creates new imagery and makes sounds visible. She specializes in analog and handmade visuals. Responding live to music, she experiments with the movements of her hands and body in addition to placing various objects in front of the camera: feathers, leafs, fabrics, fire, etc. to create mesmerizing effects which are sent through a video mixer and out to a screen.

Before performing, Elke searches for out of the ordinary pictures, unexplored perspectives and hidden treasures. During every performance, she immerses herself into the atmosphere, the lighting effects, the music and the crowd. She mixes together movements, her own brand of creativity and images from the event itself.

For the last few years she has also been using her whole body for the visuals, starting to dance, perform and move in front of the screen. The pictures which appear are always different. Simple hand movements result in intriguing patterns and shapes on the screen .... which sometimes even look like birds or digital animated forms.

In the last year, Juladi has started to use this set up as an interactive installation, whereby everybody inspired by the Juladi show can start to do their own visuals with their bodies, hands, fabrics ... The senses are invited to journey through the beautiful composition of picture and sound.

Juladi studied at Stuttgart Media University. The media design and electroacoustic composition courses at the Bauhaus University in Weimar developed her feeling for music and pictures. Juladi is Elke Radtke from Nuertingen near Stuttgart (Germany), who likes to present pictures with no particular guidelines. Like the clouds in the sky. Everyone discovers something individual; every observer interprets what they see differently.
Juladi has performed live in 15 countries since 2005. She also makes Video-projects with kids and mental ill people.

She also exhibited her video art in the Museum of Art in Bonn, Germany and at the Biennale in Enschede, Netherlands. This October she will perform live and have a 3 month interactive installation at the EMMA Espoo Museum of Modern Art in Finland.
